An intimate conversation with bestselling author and food policy expert, Marion Nestle, PhD, about her latest book, Sugar Coated, and Berkeley’s landmark victory over Big Soda with its Sugary Drink Distributor Tax. The event will include a book signing by the author. Funds from the event will support the Yes on Measure AA campaign, which would require sugary drink distributors to pay a 2-cent-per-ounce tax to pay for local children and community health programs. Biologist, nutritionist and public health advocate, Marion Nestle’s research examines scientific and socioeconomic influences on food choice, obesity and food safety, emphasizing the role of food marketing. Through her award-winning books and articles, Nestle has had a national influence on food policy, nutrition and food education.
Moderating the discussion with Marion Nestle will be author and educator, Anna Lappé. A highly-respected advocate for health, environmental and poverty issues, Anna is the Executive Director of the Global Alliance for the Future of Food, a strategic alliance of philanthropic foundations working on food systems foundations and a proud resident of Berkeley, California.
